Riverside Beat Priority Update |
||
|
Good evening all,
Please see the following update for this quarters priority around preventing offences in our open spaces:
Throughout April 2026, regular high‑visibility foot and vehicle patrols were carried out across Castle Gardens, Nelson Mandela Park, and Thirlmere Gardens following reports of street lifestyle activity, suspected drug use, and anti‑social behaviour. Patrols took place at varied times of day to provide reassurance and target peak activity periods.
Officers engaged with park users and members of the public, with several suspected drug‑related gatherings dispersing on police presence. Intelligence was regularly submitted regarding loitering at the bus shelter, suspicious behaviour, individuals avoiding officers, and reports of males running from police or using high‑powered e‑bikes. Fortunately, targeted patrols following community concerns found the area clear on multiple occasions, with legitimate park users present.
A reduction in street lifestyle footfall has been noted, although some paraphernalia remains, indicating residual low‑level activity. Partnership working with Park Rangers confirmed evening gate closures to further deter issues.
In addition to patrol activity, a personal safety and reassurance engagement was conducted with staff at a local hotel, providing guidance on lone working, safe travel, and crime prevention. The engagement was well received, with no incidents disclosed and reassurance provided regarding local policing presence.
Many thanks
Sgt 1509 Wilson
